Established in 2012 in Washington, DC, Ella Letterpress stemmed from my passion (obsession) for all things paper, letterpress printing and artisan crafts. Along with influencing appreciation for the oldest print method and hands on nature of the craft, I emphasize collaboration when it comes to the design process in order to capture each clients personality and vision. We are a team!
I describe my style as “traditional with a modern twist” because I value tradition when it comes to stationery and etiquette, but I also love introducing my creativity in unexpected details. While my main focus is letterpress printing, I offer other print methods to meet any budget or look you want to achieve.
Ella Letterpress is now based out of my hometown of Richmond, Virginia where I work alongside Paper on the Avenue, a full service retail stationery store that offers paper goods for all occasions.
My portfolio includes a collection of my favorite stationery designs and wedding suites. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any questions or a custom request.

ABOUT ELLAHello! My name is Ella and I have been obsessed with all things paper since working at paper store during college. After graduating and moving to Washington DC, I brought my passion with me and started making stationery for friends on the side. I like to refer to myself as an “aspiring stationer” because oh what a journey it has been! Being a self taught designer and printer has involved a lot of learning and trial and error, but I have loved every minute of the adventure.

ELLA LETTERPRESSI love the luxurious feel of letterpress, and enjoy seeking out beautiful fine papers to cut into liners. My goal is to influence the art of letter writing in today’s technology driven world as well as the appreciation of letterpress as an artisan craft. I love the hands on nature of the oldest print method and have spread my crafting from stationery to wedding invitations and more! I consider my style to be “traditional with a modern twist.” Etiquette and tradition are both very important to me, but I love discovering ways to introduce design in the details. I love working with customers and giving unlimited options with the hope of making the process FUN and collaborative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE NAMEI was named after my great grandmother and when I was growing up, I considered Ella to be an old fashioned name. The name has become quite popular recently, and my mom has always said I am the first Ella of my generation. I named my business Ella Letterpress because letterpress is an old fashioned art that has become back in style-just like the name Ella!

FAMILY INSPIRATIONI come from a very creative family, so I have grown up around artists and creative business owners. My mom is owner of Huger Embroidery (www.hugerembroidery.com) and my aunt is the owner of Dana Gibson (www.danagibson.com) both based out of Richmond, Virginia. My grandmother is an artist and my great great grandfather, Charles Dana Gibson, an illustrator and creator of the "Gibson Girl" at the turn of the 20th century. I am honored to have inherited their artistic gene and continue to find inspiration in their work.
